With the new timeline, the backstory we all knew and loved about Khan Noonien Singh is but a distant memory from an alternative universe. No longer discovered by the Enterprise and exiled after an attempted coup, this Khan has an entirely different story to tell about his rise to power. To fill in this new backstory, IDW will be releasing a new comic series where Khan’s secrets will be unlocked and the origin of evil will finally be uncovered.
Written by Mike Johnson, and overseen by reboot screenwriter Roberto Orci, this six-issue comic promises to work seamslessly into the overall narrative, seeing as the two who have worked together on most ‘Star Trek’ reboot comics including Countdown and Countdown to Darkness.
The plot? Well, Johnson describes it so:
“We’re traveling back in time to show Khan’s rise to power and give fans their first look at the legendary Eugenics Wars. As the series unfolds we will see the events that led to Khan leaving Earth aboard the Botany Bay, and then jump forward to witness his awakening in the future by Admiral Marcus.”
Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief, further explains that “Khan will add dimension and depth to this new iteration one of the most classic villains in all of Star Trek lore.”
Releasing a series about a character as popular as Khan, who was played by an actor whose celebrity is rising at meteoric rates, this series promises to sell well to the new fans of the reboot.
ScienceFiction.com will be there when it comes out in October to see if it deserves all the hype.
