Move over Madame Kovarian as it looks like Amy Pond will be channeling your dark side! According to THR, former ‘Doctor Who’ companion, Karen Gillan, has just signed on to play the lead female villain role in the movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
This may not be the Marvel/’Doctor Who’ crossover many fans may expect, but it seems that Marvel is keen on having more former ‘Doctor Who’ actors star in their films. After all, Christopher Eccleston, who helped reboot the ‘Doctor Who’ series with his portrayal of the 9th (or is he the 10th?) Doctor, will be seen as Malekith the Accursed in the upcoming ‘Thor: The Dark World’.
No further information about Gillan’s role was revealed, but given her ginger hair, speculation is leaning towards the villain Re-Venn which would make sense if the rumors that Lee Pace is playing Ronan the Accuser are true. Another theory is that she may be playing Nebula, the self-proclaimed grand-daughter of Thanos, and that Pace may really be playing Nova. The Thanos connection holds some validity as he is expected to be one of the big bads in ‘The Avengers 2’.
Besides Pace (who all we really officially know is playing a villain), Gillan will star alongside other big names like Glenn Close (who will play a Nova Corps leader similar to Nick Fury’s position in ‘The Avengers’), Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Starlord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and John C. Rielly who is rumored to be playing Rhomann Dey, a character similar to Agent Coulson.
No word yet as to who will voice Rocket Racoon, but a fan favorite suggestion that was toss into the ring was another ‘Doctor Who’ alum, David Tennent (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Fright Night’) .
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is slated to begin filming towards the end of June in London, so it won’t be long before we find out exactly who will play what role.
What do you think? Who do you speculate that Gillan is playing?
