After conquering the box office over the weekend and scoring the second best domestic opening weekend of all time, Shane Black’s ‘Iron Man 3’ is certainly flying high. After blasting past Harry Potter, Batman, and Captain Jack Sparrow, the only film that the latest Marvel movie couldn’t beat was the last Marvel movie, Joss Whedon’s ‘The Avengers’.

Now that practically everyone in the world has had a chance to check out the first film in Phase Two starring the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist known as Tony Stark, many artists are coming out to share some concept art showing off what ended up on the cutting room floor. Firstly, the amazing artist Adi Granov, whose work on the Iron Man comic book series inspired much of the look of the cinematic version of the character, released a few pieces on his Tumblr page. The header image is of the Mark 42 armor, prior to it’s final paint job. The next image is an unused armor design that was eliminated from the final draft of the film that looks like that it would be used by a villain:

Next, we have a title sequence from CG/VFX director Jose Ortiz and designer/illustrator Ash Thorp. They actually designed a number of sequences, which can all be seen at Comic Book Movie, but this one is my favorite. I love the way that they incorporate Black Sabbath’s legendary tune with images from the classic comic books. Check out the short clip below, followed by stills from an alternate version of the sequence:

Finally, as we all saw in the final battle of the film, Stark has been hard at work since the battle of New York creating a whole arsenal of armors for every occasion. In case you missed them due to the fast-paced (and incredibly choreographed) action, you can get a better look at all of the armors featured in the film thanks to Comic Book Movie once again, along with model images by Ryan Meinerding, Justin Goby Fields, Piotr Nasirau, and Josh Nizzi:

I don’t know about you, but I definitely find it interesting to know the names of each suit and to see each of their intended functions. I’m curious to see if any of these models will make their way back into the Hall of Armors once it gets rebuilt in a future film.

‘Iron Man 3’ starring Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, and Guy Pearce is in theaters now.
