Thrones are totally in this year. Of course, there’s the obvious return of the insanely popular HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, but other things throne related are gaining a lot of buzz this month. For example, there’s Peter Dinklage joining the all-star cast of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. Also, the latest ‘Iron Man 3’ poster features Ben Kingsley’s character, The Mandarin, looking like a rockstar sitting on his throne. Not to be left out from the cool throne party, Vin Diesel has released a new picture from his upcoming film, ‘Riddick’, that features the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise star deep in thought on (what else?) a gnarly looking throne.
On his official Facebook page, Diesel has been sharing various photos from his body of work and his personal life. The latest pic comes from the Rated-R follow-up to ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’, which was released nearly 10 years ago. Though the film doesn’t hit theaters until the fall, the actor has been sporadically releasing pictures as a slow build to hype the premiere of the film later this year.
Below, you can see the latest picture from ‘Riddick’, which Diesel calls a “return to that dark place, the mind of an Alpha Furyan”, followed by the synopsis of the film:
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.
To be honest, I forgot what Vin Diesel could do in movies without cars in them, so it’ll be a nice change of pace to see him reprise his role in this sci-fi action flick. That’s not to say that I don’t like all those car movies, because I do, but I just can’t even recall what else he’s done in the past five years that wasn’t a ‘Fast & Furious’ movie. We’ll see what happens when he trades in the Trans Ams for spaceships when he steps back into the shoes of Richard B. Riddick.
‘Riddick’ starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and former WWE Champion Dave Bautista is scheduled for release on September 6, 2013.
