What better time to celebrate the worst films of the year than to hold the event on the night before Hollywood honors the best? The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation did just that when they held their annual Razzie Awards Saturday night. Leading the way with 11 nominations was the final chapter of the vampire/teen angst love story ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ and it continued to lead the way winning 7 of its categories.
The franchise won for Worst Film, Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart (who was also nominated for her work on ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’), Worst Supporting Actor for Taylor Lautner, Worst Screen Couple for Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Director for Bill Condon and a special award for Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
Considering the film has already made $828 million worldwide (making this the highest grossing installment in the franchise) fans have pretty much conveyed what they think about the movie despite what the Razzies say.
This however, is not the most Razzies ever won by a single film. That honor goes to the 2011 Adam Sandler film ‘Jack and Jill’ which had won 10 awards last year. Of course the foundation continues to let Sandler know how they feel about his acting as this year he beat out Robert Pattinson, Eddie Murphy, Nicholas Cage and Tyler Perry (not in drag) for Worst Actor for the film ‘That’s My Boy’. Some say that an actor is only as good as the script which may explain why ‘That’s My Boy’ also received a Razzie for Worst Screenplay.
Not to be outshined, Rhianna won Worst Supporting Actress for her motion picture debut appearance in ‘Battleship’.
Unlike the Oscars, which are being held at the illustrious Hollywood and Highland Center (formally called the Kodak Theater), the Razzies were announced at the Continental Breakfast Room at the not so well-known but touristy Holiday Inn Express Walk of Fame Hotel.
