Filming is winding down on ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and we now have the first official photos from the film.
The images come courtesy of Entertainment Weekly magazine and features Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and behind her, the actor who won the coveted role of ladies’ man Finnick Odair, Sam Claflin. The duo look combat ready in their new Hunger Games body suits with their preferred weapon. For Katniss, it’s her trusty bow and since Finnick hails from the maritime lands of District 4, he has his trident in hand.
How close ‘Catching Fire’ will be to the second novel in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy is unknown at the moment. Gary Ross’ adaptation was pretty true to the first novel but scripting duties this time around first went to Simon Beaufoy (‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘127 Hours’ ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’) with rewrites from Michael Arndt (‘Oblivion,’ Toy Story 3,’ ‘Star Wars VII’).
There’s lot of great tidbits in this week’s EW about the film (like Woody Harrelson having a hard time adjusting to the fact that Ross was no longer directing ‘Catching Fire,’ Lawrence spitting egg into the director Francis Lawrence’s mouth at their first meeting and Claflin stating that the sugar cube scene with Lawrence was “the scaries moment in (his) life”) so be sure to pick up a copy if you want to know more!
We’re 11 months away from the premiere of the film but you can already see that this film will be one of the most anticipated films in 2014.
