Three initials have been topping Hollywood’s hotlist for some time now and they are JGL. From ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ to ‘Looper’ to ‘Inception’ and more, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quite the hot commodity. Recently, his name has come up in talks for the lead in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, but it appears that he has passed on it in favor of a core character role in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’.
Deadline broke the news that the actor will be joining the cast alongside Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, and newcomers that include Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung. Bleeding Cool revealed that Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, “a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game”. Rumor has it that the role was originally meant for Johnny Depp, but JGL won out in the end.
The ‘(500) Days of Summer’ star was quoted in the press release announcing his casting saying:
“I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality. Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.”
Production is currently in progress for ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ and it’s scheduled for an October 4, 2013 release.
