As promised, the teaser trailer for ‘Star Trek into Darkness’ has hit and we have both the domestic and international versions for you to see!
J.J. Abrams is notorious for his demand on secrecy for his projects and it still holds true with these teasers. If you were hoping that the teasers would finally reveal who the villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing then don’t hold your breath. It looks like Abrams is waiting until the last minute for that reveal! Or is he…?
The very first words uttered in what the industry is now calling an “announcement video,” sends chills of excitement for any Trekkie. “You think your world is safe,” Cumberbatch says in a voice over, “It is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned. To have. My. Vengeance.”
Returned? Is it someone we know from the past? Check out the first of the two announcement videos that we have for you right now:
‘Star Trek into Darkness’ Domestic Trailer:
But wait! We have more! While the domestic trailer may not have given a hint of who the villain in the film is, the Japanese trailer may!
There’s 12 extra seconds in the Japanese trailer that wasn’t in the one above. What’s a mere 12 seconds? Lots! Abrams 3 frame preview on the ‘Conan’ show gave us a glimpse of Spock on a fiery terrain. 12 seconds equates to a full extra scene!
For those who wish not to have the film spoiled for you then you may want to stop here as this trailer can be considered a spoiler – especially the end image for the diehard Trekkies:
‘Star Trek into Darkness’ International Trailer:
“Is there anything you would not do for your family?…” It looks like Kirk may have to make a difficult decision. Whether the last image of two hands together through a pane of glass is an important part of the film or a gesture paying homage to a very important and successful ‘Star Trek’ film in the franchise is unknown, but I will now leave it to you.
What do you think it all means? Do you think you know who Cumberbatch’s villian is from the videos? Then let us know in the comments below!
‘Star Trek into Darkness’ opens in theaters on May 17, 2013.
