On Saturday at the Javits Center, Marvel took the stage to share some upcoming news about it’s upcoming television projects. While news of a new Iron Man anime called ‘Rise of the Technovore’ from Mad House featuring War Machine, Hawkeye, Punisher, and Nick Fury, some new Marvel Knights Animation projects coming up for the Eternals and the Inhumans, and Seth Green voicing A-Bomb in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. were great bits of news to hear. However, the highlight of the panel was in regards to Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. television show for ABC.
In a video from the man himself, he announced that Agent Phil Coulson, who met his demise in this summer’s ‘The Avengers’, would not be coming back. However, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, appeared in the video as well sporting a shirt that said “Coulson Lives”. Then, Whedon announced that Clark Gregg would be reprising his role as Coulson for his TV show, which promoted the actor to take the stage, receiving uproarious applause from the audience.
Let me repeat that: Agent Coulson is back. Does that mean that he survived? Is this show a prequel to ‘The Avengers’? Not many things were properly answered, but we do know that the character will be back and will star in Joss Whedon’s new show.
What do you think about the return of Agent Coulson? Are you even more stoked for Joss Whedon’s return to TV on behalf of Marvel? Share your thoughts in the comments below after you check out some pictures from the panel, courtesy of the Pretentious Film Majors.
