When it was first revealed that The Governor would be a part of season 3 of AMC’s hit show ‘The Walking Dead’, fans of the comic book were wary that they’d get some super watered down version of the vicious sadistic character. Well, last night at the Saturn Awards, a few higher ups on the show spoke about him and another fan favorite, Michonne, and how the show will handle them in the upcoming season.
First, on the topic of Michonne, series creator Robert Kirkman had this to say to Shock Till You Drop (via Comic Book Movie):
“I can say that I’m completely in denial when I see Danai [Gurira] walk out on set and jump off the page. As badass as she is in the comics, seeing her move and seeing her kill the zombies in motion is so much more intense that you can believe. Fans of the comics are going to love it. She’s great.”
Then, producer David Alpert spoke about The Governor. Though the first trailer of season three showed that once again the writers of the show are taking a few liberties with Kirkman’s original story, Alpert assures us all that the villain played by David Morissey will still be up to his same old tricks.
“If you’re familiar with the books, we’re totally going to go there this season. We’re going to do some stuff that’s going to shock some people who don’t know the comics. We’re bringing back Merle… It’s going to get pretty intense and pretty crazy.”
Really? They’re gonna go there? Like all the way there? (Anyone who’s read the comics can probably guess what things I’m talking about.) I can’t wait to see how much of it they can get away with on television. I know it’s cable and all, but some of that stuff is seriously messed up.
Then again, there have been some pretty messed up things on TV before. I mean they do continue to air the downright torture that is ‘The Jersey Shore’ and various other reality TV shows.
‘The Walking Dead’ returns to AMC on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 9:00pm.
