After being tapped to reboot the Daredevil franchise for 20th Century Fox a year ago, things have been moving slowly on the Man Without Fear front for David Slade. The studio picked up the director to helm a new adaptation of Matt Murdock’s story based on Frank Miller’s ‘Born Again’ storyline after his first big budget success, ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’. At the time, he was also considered for ‘The Wolverine’ (which went to James Mangold), ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ (which is in limbo at the moment), and ‘The Hunger Games’ (which went to Gary Ross).

Quite some time has since passed, and the script recently got a rewrite from David James Kelly, but Slade has mostly been working on television projects. However, Slade’s name came up in the Daredevil conversation again today. Blastr is reporting that the director has named his choice for the successor to Ben Affleck’s vision-impaired vigilante… Sorta.

Check out this Twitter conversation between the director and a fan:

Yes, that’s a super vague response, and he could be saying that he hopes to start working on the reboot again too, but judging by the fact that he has since deleted the tweet, he could have been saying that he wants Hartnett as well.

Previously, Slade and Hartnett worked together on ’30 Days of Night’ and the actor was in line to play Loki in ‘The Avengers’ before Tom Hiddleston beat him out for the role. Now that his name is out there, it may be time for him to make his Marvel movie debut.

The new Daredevil?

What do you think about Josh Hartnett playing Matt Murdock and his crime-fighting alter ego, Daredevil? Do you have someone better in mind to play the Man Without Fear? Let’s hear your picks in the comment section below.

UPDATE:

BleedingCool posted Tweets from David Slade debunking the rumors that Josh Hartnett was possibly going to play Daredevil. Matter of fact, he said no one was being discussed to play the role yet saying, “…we are not at casting stage.”
