Just like the last issue of ‘New Avengers’, this new one doesn’t focus on the events of the present day Marvel Universe and ‘Avengers Vs. X-Men’. Instead, we find out more about the history of the Phoenix and its ties to the Iron Fist. And apparently Leonardo Da Vinci’s connection to all of this as well.
I was more invested in this issue than I was the last one, which was bogged down with Iron Fist history and lengthy dialogue. This one had more action in it. As the medium was meant to be, we were shown the story rather than having to read it.
However, that being said, this whole story arc is starting to lose me. I think that they should get to the point of all this and tie it into the main event sooner rather than later. While the random addition of Da Vinci piqued my interest, I would rather see Danny Rand and Luke Cage deal with the Phoenix Force in the present day armed with the knowledge of how the former Iron Fists dealt with it.
I’m usually a fan of picking up every single book in a crossover, so as to get the full scope of what’s going on in each section of the Marvel Universe, but I’m starting to get to the point where ‘The New Avengers’ might have to get pulled from my pull list. I’ll give it one more issue before I cut this series loose and regret not waiting till the trades to read this part of AvX.
Verdict: Borrow
