Yes. You read that headline correctly. Ralph Macchio, the original Karate Kid, is the latest actor to be tapped for the upcoming ‘Hitchcock’ (formerly titled ‘Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho’). Since his stint as the Karate Kid, Macchio seemingly disappeared from the public eye but a quick glance as his filmography shows that he’s been busy, if a little under the radar. His largest recent role was a recurring role on ABC’s ‘Ugly Betty’.
In ‘Hitchcock’, Macchio will be playing Joe Stefano, the screenwriter of ‘Psycho’. The film follows a dramatization of the life of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock as he films his classic slasher flick ‘Psycho’.
Macchio will be joining an already first-rate cast that includes Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife and collaborator. The cast is rounded out with Scarlett Johansson (‘Avengers’), Jessica Biel (‘The Illusionist’), Kurtwood Smith (‘Robocop’), Wallace Langham (‘CSI‘), Toni Collette (‘Sixth Sense’), Danny Huston (‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’), Michael Stuhlbarg (‘Hugo’), and Michael Wincott (‘The Crow’).
‘Hitchcock’ is directed by Sacha Gervasi (‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’) from a screenplay from Stephen Rebello (who wrote the novel on which the film is based) and John McLaughlin (‘Black Swan’).
