With filming rumored to start next month on J.J. Abrams’ sequel to ‘Star Trek’, a lot of news regarding the movie has been focused on who’s been cast. It’s already been discussed that there were rumors Abrams had been courting Benicio del Toro to play a villain in the movie. Now word has it that Peter Weller has officially signed on to also star.

There has been no indication as to what the role Weller will be playing is, but it was said it would be a principle one. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Alice Rice (‘Entourage’, ‘Sex in the City 2’) has also signed on and will be playing a new character for the franchise and that Toro WILL NOT be playing Khan. Although it was rumored that Toro had agreed to play the role of Khan, Abrams himself debunked this with 2 words to Hitflix: “Not true.”

We’ll keep you updated as to who else is signing on as I’m sure there’ll be more news coming out as the production start date gets closer.

The untitled Star Trek movie is set to be released on May 17, 2013.
