Paramount and IMAX will be re-releasing a digitally remastered version of ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ on Friday, August 26, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
After being remastered with proprietary IMAX technology, the film will play at 246 IMAX theaters for a two-week run.
The film recently crossed the $1 billion mark and is currently #5 on the list of all time biggest box office grosses (see the Top 10 list below). ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ only took 37 days to cross that threshold. Still in theaters, the film has taken in $348 million domestically and $748 million internationally for a total of $1,097.3 billion. This total now puts it roughly just $20 million dollars behind the #4 box office champ ‘Lord of the Rings:ROTK’. Being that close may have prompted the re-release fever for director Michael Bay.
