For those of you who have heard about the new John Carter movie, the wait is over. Disney has released the official trailer in this much awaited film version of the Edgar Rice Burrough’s Barsoom series, and you can see it right here on ScienceFiction.com!

Based on the book ‘The Princess of Mars’, the movie will follow Civil War vet John Carter who is transplanted to Mars and follows him as he becomes involved in the conflict between the inhabitants of the planet and finds himself in the precarious position to save Barsoom and its people.

The movie stars Taylor Kitsch (whom you might recognize from his role as Remy Lebeau from the movie ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and as Tim Riggins in ‘Friday Night Lights’) in the lead role as John Carter. He is joined by other recognizable superhero film alums such as Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin – ‘Spiderman’), Thomas Hayden Church (Sandman – Spiderman 3’), Lynn Collins (Sliver fox ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and Dawn Green ‘True Blood’) and Mark Strong (Sinestro – ‘Green Lantern’).

Fans of the Barsoom series have waited over 80 years for a film version of the books to be made ever since Bob Clampett (of Looney Tunes fame) in 1931 approached Burroughs to make an animated version of ‘The Princess of Mars’. Many attempts have been made to achieve this dream, but it wasn’t until 2007, when Disney gained the film rights, that it began to look like this dream would come to fruition.

Fans will have to wait for the full feature as the movie John Carter, is set to be released on March 9, 2012.
