The war is over. This issue is full of twists, turns and surprising ring selection choices.

From the cover to the final panel of this book, there is only one word to describe it… EPIC. There wasn’t a lot of fall out from the previous chapters of the ‘War of the Green Lanterns’ (i.e. John Stewart didn’t have to answer for murdering Mogo). However, for the first time since ‘Green Lantern: Rebirth’, Kyle Rayner is getting some of the spotlight in the flagship Green Lantern title.

It looks like the construct pen may indeed be stronger than the construct sword, in this case, with Hal Jordan instructing Kyle Rayner to draw the New Guardians in the book in order to free them from the Book of the Black. Wow, Hal doing a bit of outside the box thinking, trying to get some reinforcements from the other corps – of course it seriously backfired.

Just as all hope and the rings were about to be returned to the New Guardians, Krona was able to overwrite the ring’s authority just as the leaders of the other Lantern Corps are about to power up. It was a very cool series of panels that really showed just how painful and terrifying this War of the Green Lanterns has really been.

There are two unthinkable moments that happen in this book; one of which DC The Source spoiled for everyone.

“Thaal Sinestro of Korugar, you have the ability to overcome great fear. You have been chosen. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps!”

This little bit of plot twist greatness was spoiled, as the cover for the DCnU cover for ‘Green Lantern’ #1 was released early with Sinestro’s mug gracing the cover, pencil thin mustache and all. No amount of spoiling can take away from the super cool splash page of Sinestro harnessing the Green Light of Will once more. Things just got interesting in the Green Lantern Universe.

The other big to do in the final chapter of the ‘War of the Green Lanterns,’ – Hal Jordan. He has gone from the greatest Green Lantern to a Rouge to Parallax, and back to THE Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Now, after fighting and having the will power to kill an ex-Guardian of the Universe by overcoming the built in fail safe, he is a complete thorn in their collective little blue sides. Hal Jordan’s reward for saving the Universe and entire Green Lantern Corps? Yet again, the Guardians stripped him of his ring and sent him back to Earth in the middle of nowhere.

Well, this is it for the ‘Green Lantern’ book in the regular DC Universe, the next issue will be ‘Green Lantern’ #1 this September in the DCnU Relaunch. There is a lot going on in this title and the fall out of the War of the Green Lanterns will be widespread and have ramifications for issues to come. As for the War itself, after ‘Brightest Day’ this is exactly the story that needed to be told and the status quo has been dramatically shaken. Make sure to keep ‘Green Lantern’ in your pull-list, I think we are in for a wild ride as the clock turns back on the DCU.
