Fox has finally renewed ‘Fringe’ for another season (its fourth). Despite moving it to Fox’s science fiction graveyard (Friday nights), executives have given a full 22 episode season order for the J.J. Abrams-created series.

Fox has a history of moving good science fiction shows to Friday nights and then after seeing the decline in ratings canceling the show. This happened to  ‘Dollhouse’, ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, Dark Angel’ and ‘Firefly’. ‘Fringe’ has seen its already shaky ratings get even lower after the recent move to Fridays. Apparently the saving grace for the series is the fact  that despite science fiction fans going to the movies on Friday nights, they still DVR the show and watch it later. By adding the time-shifted viewers to the ratings, the show actually is a top-rated Friday night series.

And will someone please nominate actor John Noble for an Emmy! His portrayal of “Walter Bishop” on ‘Fringe’ is nothing short of amazing.

About the show:
The FBI teams up with a formerly-institutionalized scientist – who was performing experiments on the fringe of real science – and his son to investigate weird crimes that are seemingly part of a larger pattern, and may be connected with a global company called Massive Dynamics.
