Character actor Bill Erwin, who was best known for his roles as Arthur the Bellman in the 1980 film ‘Somewhere in Time’ and as Sid Fields on NBC’s ‘Seinfeld’, has died. 96-year-old Erwin passed on Dec. 29 of age-related causes in Studio City, California.
He returned many times to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, which is the setting for the time-traveling romantic drama ‘Somewhere in Time’, to celebrate the film with fans. The movie starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.
Nominated for an Emmy for ‘Seinfeld’, Erwin appeared on many television shows including ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, ‘Quantum Leap’, ‘The Invaders’, ‘The Wild Wild West’, ‘Everwood’, ‘My Name Is Earl’, ‘Gunsmoke’, ‘Growing Pains’, ‘I Love Lucy’, ‘Leave It to Beaver’, ‘Married …With Children’, ‘Highway to Heaven’, ‘Who’s the Boss?’, ‘Perry Mason’, and ‘The Andy Griffith Show’.
He is survived by his children Mike, Timothy (Toes), Lindsey and Kelly; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson; sister Mary Gene Cosper; and nephews Ron and Don Cosper.
