George Miller Mad Max

It looks like with Warner Bros. wants to revive a few of its franchise films and expand their worlds, and one of the more fun ones mentioned was ‘Mad Max.’ Specifically, Warner Bros. chief executive of film and television Kevin Tsujihara has brought up ‘Mad Max’ in the same breath as ‘The Matrix’ as films he’d like to see continue. We already know that a new outing in the world of ‘The Matrix’ is being crafted, but ‘Mad Max’ is a more exciting but less likely choice to mention.

According to the exec:

We have incredible franchises on the features side such as “The Matrix.” We’d love to work with George Miller on furthering the “Mad Max” franchise. We feel there’s a big opportunity on the Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera side as well. We need to invest and build those franchises up. We think that, despite their age, they still maintain a special place in kids’ hearts.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ underperformed at the box office making only $378M across the globe but has since won six Oscars and has become a hit among fans with strong home sales. While director George Miller has previously shown interest in working on both another ‘Mad Max’ film as well as a spinoff featuring Furiosa, the director had had quite a few issues with the studio. There is the small matter of that lawsuit against Warner Bros. worth potentially millions of dollars to the director. Until this is resolved, I would expect to see Tsujihara’s wishes for a sequel fade away.

Would you be thrilled if Warner Bros. was able to work with George Miller and deliver ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ into a new franchise? Do you think his next film would focus on Max or be a Furiosa spinoff? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
