Leading up to the filming of ‘Avengers 4‘ and after it has wrapped, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been convinced that it will be the last outing of Chris Evans as Captain America. Multiple interviews have had him sharing that he is glad his contract is up. Not only that, but after his last scene was shot Evans shared that he had “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last eight years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.” He would later go on to say that it was his sentiment regardless of how ‘Avengers 4’ comes to an end, but fans have increasingly felt that his exit from the MCU is at hand.
However, co-director Joe Russo made a very brief comment that is throwing that belief into the wind and having fans have hope that we’ll still see Evans wield the shield as Steve Rogers down the line. When asked about what he felt about Evans’ original tweet, Russo slyly responded:
“I think it was more emotional for him than it was us because he’s not done yet. I won’t explain what that means, but fans will soon understand what I’m talking about.”
Joe, of course, wouldn’t explain what he meant by that comment and we’re unlikely to get any hints before the final scenes or post-credit scenes from ‘Avengers 4’ so now theories will be flying around that Evans will somehow return.
