Dark Avengers

It isn’t clear what direction the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to go after ‘Avengers 4‘ is released quite yet but someone with loose lips has shared that a script has been written for ‘Dark Avengers.’ We know that Marvel Studios has been known to name many of their films after major events even if not at all related to their comic book counterparts such as ‘Age of Ultron’ but there are some interesting ways that we could see this adapted to the big screen.

For those unfamiliar with the storyline, the Skrull invasion which occurs in “Secret War” ends up Earth’s Mightiest Heroes suspect after so many had been replaced by the aliens and the entire takeover of Earth ended up being prevented by Norman Osborn. This allowed for a “cured” Green Goblin to earn back the public’s trust and be elevated to being in charge of H.A.M.M.E.R. which was a new iteration of S.H.I.E.L.D. In this role, the ex-villain created a team of “Dark Avengers” and use villains to masquerade as heroes to stop global crime. Using manipulation, he kept the public turned against the real heroes while successfully making a mad grab for power.

His team consisted of a replacement of Spider-Man by Mag Gargan bonded with the Venom symbiote, Captain Marvel was replaced by Moonstone, Hawkeye with Bullseye, Wolverine with his son Dakan, and Norman himself was wearing the Iron Patriot armor to represent Iron Man and Captain America. They also brought in a few other characters such as Ares the God of War and Sentry who was convinced that he was doing the right thing.

At this time, many of these characters have yet to be introduced to the MCU and can’t due to current rights issues between Fox and Marvel TV. That being said, we are having the Skrulls introduced in ‘Captain Marvel’ which could set the stage for a “Secret Invasion” to occur after ‘Avengers 4.’ While many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes may be hard to replace with the current roster of villains it wouldn’t be a shocker to see Loki behind this if he survives. Not only that but you could bring in Abomination from ‘The Incredible Hulk’ as a Hulk replacement, potentially Yellowjacket from ‘Ant-Man’ as a replacement for the tiny hero if they’re able to bring him out of the Quantum Realm, Justin Hammer from ‘Iron Man 2’ would likely love to suit up in his very own ‘Iron Man’ armor, and there are a variety of ways you could bring either Helmut Zemo or Vulture into the mix.

Would you be thrilled to see a ‘Dark Avengers’ movie that put the villains in charge? Which villains would you like to see included? If the movie took the name and went in a completely different direction, how do you think it could play out on the big screen? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
