With fan backlash about ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and poor ticket sales for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘, it looks like Disney is planning on slowing down production of their franchise set in a galaxy far, far away. Bad timing and production woes on “Solo: A Star Wars Story’ made it almost impossible to make a profit even as it was an amazingly well-done film but it easily was a significant factor in the decision for less of “Star Wars” being created moving forward.

According to Bob Iger:

“I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.’s. But I think we’re going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.”

Those that hated ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will likely be thrilled with this news and take it as a win against Lucasfilm. Sadly, with how great ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ actually was, this likely means they’ll be putting more of their time in the larger trilogy films instead of continuing the “A Star Wars Story” outings. If the boycott of ‘Solo’ really was why it did so poorly at the box office, all that was accomplished was less of the films that fans likely would have enjoyed and more big budget pieces such as Rian Johnson‘s upcoming trilogy.

The other take on this is that there was nothing lined up to go into production and be completed by the end of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX‘ and the studio doesn’t want to rush into anything that they don’t believe is far enough along in development.

Are you thrilled that there will now be less “Star Wars” in your life? If you hated ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is this the result that you were hoping for? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
