In January, Holly Marie Combs made headlines after The CW announced that it was rebooting the classic ’90s-2000s series in which she starred, ‘Charmed,’ without input from the original cast and creative team.  Combs did not take kindly to the announcement and aired her feelings on Twitter.  Now, an even more iconic series from around the same time period, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is also in the process of being rebooted for a new generation and of course everyone is dying to know what the original cast thinks.

Unlike ‘Charmed’, the new ‘Buffy’ comes from the mind of the Joss Whedon, the creator of the original series.  As far as Alyson Hannigan is concerned, that’s all you need.  “As long as Joss is involved it will be good, I’m sure,” she stated when recently asked about the new show.

Hannigan, of course, played Willow Rosenberg, Buffy’s best friend, who eventually becomes a powerful witch on her own right.  Hannigan appeared in all seven seasons of the original series.  And although the series ended 15 years ago, it retains a cult following and airs in repeats, picking up new fans.  Hannigan thinks it stands the test of time, saying:

“That show was just so incredible and I think sort of ahead of its time.  Honestly, they should just put reruns on primetime. I feel like the old show would still hold up. At least that’s what people keep telling me.

Now the fans of the show, their children are watching so we have a whole other generation. But I don’t know I just hope [the reboot] is as good as ours was.”

Well, as Hannigan said, if Joss is involved, it will be good and indeed Whedon is developing the new series with ‘Midnight, Texas’ creator Monica Owusu-Breen.  Unlike ‘Charmed’, the new ‘Buffy’ was not ordered by a particular outlet.  FOX Television is developing the series, but it is in the early stages of development.  A pilot hasn’t even been written yet.  So check back for updates as they arrive.
