Stranger Things

Hawkins, Indiana looks pretty rural, with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) working at an old-fashioned five and dime and a police force that appears to consist of three officers.  But Hawkins is going back to the future and getting with the times, with the opening of the brand new Starcourt Mall!  And fan favorite Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) is on hand to welcome you to “America’s favorite place to cool down… Scoops Ahoy” ice cream parlor.

Netflix has released an epic commercial, for this fictional shopping mecha housing such 80s go-to joints like Claire’s, The Gap, Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, Orange Julius and Hot Dog on a Stick.  The clip boasts cutting edge 1985 computer graphics and a Casio synthesizer soundtrack, that sounds a little like Patti LaBelle’s ‘New Attitude’.

But the purpose of this clip is to announce when fans can expect to see new episodes of ‘Stranger Things’.  Sadly, while the inhabitants of Hawkins have to wait until summer 1985 to enjoy the splendors of Starcourt Mall, we’ll have to wait until summer 2019 for more ‘Stranger Things’.  This was already strongly suspected, but now it is official.

Besides confirming the summer 2019 release date, the clip introduces fans to Maya Hawke (also known as Maya Thurman-Hawke– the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke) as new character, Robin, a character previously named Erica.

An alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful. Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life… and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.

How close she gets to her coworker Steve remains to be seen, but could we finally see Steve and Nancy split with her realizing that Jonathan is her true love?

Well… only a year until we find out.
