Castlevania

Last year, the Netflix original anime ‘Castlevania’ became a breakout smash.  Originally intended to be a one-shot movie, the first season disappointed some by only being comprised of four episodes.  But now a second longer season, featuring eight episodes, is on its way with a third also in the works.

“Returning to Netflix for a second season, Castlevania, inspired by the classic video game
series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced
Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula
Tepes himself. Trevor Belmont, a last survivor of his house, is no longer alone, and he and
his misfit comrades race to find a way to save humanity from extinction at the hands of the
grief-maddened Dracula and his sinister vampire war council.”

Adi Shankar appeared at Anime Expo last week where he announced the arrival date of the second season: October 26.  This, of course, places it just ahead of Halloween, which is the perfect time for this supernatural series.

Netflix has also revealed two new images from the second season to tease fans:

Set in 1476, ‘Castlevania’ features the voices of Richard Armitage as vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, James Callis as Dracula’s son Alucard, Alejandra Reynoso as magic-wielder Sypha Belnades and Graham McTavish as Dracula himself.  The series is based on the 1989 video game ‘Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse’ which spawned numerous follow-ups over the years.

While the first season was essentially self-contained, the stage is now set to take these characters in any number of directions.  In fact, Shankar has stated that one of the elements that attracted him to ‘Castlevania’ is the rich history of the Belmont family and the potential to explore other time periods of the family’s war against Dracula and the vampires who have laid claim to power in eastern Europe.

Are you a fan of this Netflix series?  Are you excited that it is returning soon?
