While fans are understandably excited for ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 to hit Netflix later this month, there has been some worry about what kind of role Danny Rand will play in the story, especially in light of the mixed fan reaction to the character based on ‘Iron Fist’ Season 1. True, fans embraced him a bit more during ‘The Defenders,’ but he is still a large unknown element to bring onto a successful series like ‘Luke Cage,’ especially if, as we have heard, they are going to be doing some of the ‘Heroes For Hire’ arc in ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2, making Danny a major player. Luckily, ‘Luke Cage’ showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is not too concerned about it, as he seems to really like the Iron Fist character and thinks that putting Danny Rand in Harlem with Luke will bring new dimensions to the Netflix version of Iron Fist, and could help the character and his own show moving forward.
According to Coker:
“It doesn’t bother me that people have criticized Iron Fist on his series and on The Defenders. I’m arrogant enough to think that Iron Fist appearing on our show has a different sensibility. And so, it’s like—that’s the thing—I’m not dissuaded by that because Iron Fist, I think, is a dope character. And I think when you see Iron Fist within the realm of Luke Cage, and the way that we do things, I think—hopefully—that people are going to come to appreciate the character differently, and hopefully that swagger that he’ll get from appearing in the Luke Cage universe will carry over into [Iron Fist Season 2].”
Plus, when a lot of comic book fans think of either Luke Cage or Iron Fist, they recall the well-known bromance between the two heroes, which so far has gotten off to a pretty good start in the Netflix MCU during ‘The Defenders.’ Adding that element to ‘Luke Cage’ could add a bit more fun to the show, and open up the world a bit more, though I also hope this means we’ll get some Luke Cage in ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2, as it would not make sense for them to work together and become good friends and then for Luke to disappear during Danny’s show. Unless something happens at the end of ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 that breaks them apart, but we won’t know for sure until later this month.
