Ever since Amazon Studios has been betting big on ‘Lord of the Rings‘ there have been rumors that Peter Jackson would be attached to the series with conflicting reports that he was possibly going to work on a DC film instead. Now, the man who brought Middle Earth to life cinematically has weighed in on both of these options and is breaking the hearts of fans in both camps.
It sounds like Jackson isn’t interested in either one of these projects and wasn’t even approached to help a DC film.
First, he was asked about potentially working with Amazon Studios where he responded that:
“I’m not involved at all in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series. I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project.”
He didn’t outright say that there hadn’t been conversations on it, just that he wouldn’t be working on it at all. As to not having conversations though that honor falls to any potential of directing a DC movie. Not only has there not been any conversations but on Jackson’s side there is not an ounce of interest:
“That’s not true. I had no discussions about that. I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all.”
As to if the creator’s feelings were hurt by not working on either of these projects? Not in the slightest:
“I’m not involved in any DC film or Lord of The Rings series, but I’m ok with it, I have plenty other projects that keep me busy!”
Working on ‘Mortal Engines‘ is clearly one of the areas he has been busy, and now we’re all going to be wondering what will next on his list of projects.
