Incredibles 2

We already know that Edna Mode has a “no capes” rule in ‘Incredibles’ and now there was an unofficial superhero trope being banned in ‘Incredibles 2‘ – “three-point landings.” While this one doesn’t sound as if it will be quite as in your face as Edna’s rule was, it was something that the creative team took to heart when crafting the film.

The details came out, not from Edna, but from ‘Incredibles 2’ story supervisor Ted Mathot in a recent interview. According to the supervisor:

“You see it in everything, and Brad was like ‘I do not want to see any three-point landings!’”

While the ban was actually “kind of a joke” the filmmakers took it to heart and “When we’d draw something, we’d have to come up with some other way for them to land.” Honestly, with how creative the first ‘Incredibles’ movie was visually this seems like it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to come up with fun landings for both this heroic family and any new cast members who will be introduced.

Also, this is one way to prevent from repeating something that we’ve already all seen quite a few times. The superhero landing has been done in just about every franchise under the sun, not only that but we’ve seen Wade Wilson make fun of it in both ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Deadpool 2’.

The first of which was quite literally yelling “Whoo! Superhero landing!” and following that up with “You know, that’s really hard on your knees. Totally impractical, they all do it” while in the second movie he just jumps out a window to do it himself because if there is anything that Cable taught us in a completely different franchise it’s that:

Are you glad that ‘Incredibles 2’ is following the tradition of continuing to buck the trend of superhero movies even if it is in smaller areas like this? What overdone trope do you hope they’ll tackle in ‘Incredibles 3’ if the movie ever happens? Share your thoughts below!
