Infinity War

The Russo Brothers have been making the rounds as of late and while doing so revealed a significant revelation that confirmed a fan-favorite rumor from ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ Specifically, this occurred as Joe Russo was speaking to the kids of Iowa City’s City High during the opening weekend events. For those unaware, he is a University of Iowa alumnus which is why he was in the area.

The confirmation comes near the end of the film, so of course, you need to have your spoiler caps on if you haven’t seen the movie yet as #ThanosDemandsYourSilence.

Now, this theory has to do with what happened when Thanos saw a younger Gamora at the very end of the film after the infamous finger snap which wiped out half of all life everywhere. In the interview, Russo confirmed what many of us suspected and that:

“Yeah, it’s implied [that] it’s the Soul Stone. It’s all orange around; then he’s inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers – he has this out of body experience with Thanos. When he goes inside the Soul Stone, he has this kind of conversation with the younger version of his Gamora.”

In the comics, to our knowledge, the Soul Stone is unique among the stones is that it has a Soul Dimension within it. Every soul which the stone has taken ends up trapped within it. If this proves to be true, we could actually see Gamora, and everyone else who was “killed,’ still is alive here. While this potential way to bring back all of these characters to the land of the living isn’t mentioned, it is hinted at when Russo is asked if Gamora is still alive within the stone:

“She in fact is, yes. It was an attempt on our part – because we don’t like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains every villain is a hero in their own story and as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is, he’s a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally. He does care for things, and it is complicated for him to execute his plan, and it cost him something. He said at the end that it cost him everything and that it was the only thing he loved which was Gamora which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster.”

If Gamora is here, so could everyone else and this is one of the potential ways that the actors whose contracts have yet to expire or have their own movie set directly after the events in ‘Avengers 4’ could make a comeback.

Do you feel that this takeaway of Gamora being alive in the Soul Stone will play directly into the overall plan of ‘Avengers 4’ or just her own story arc?
