Smallville

It sounds like a revival of ‘Smallville‘ is something that Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum would be open to… if it were in animated format. In 2001 we saw the series launch a 10-season smash hit that was enduring to fans of the Man of Steel and general young adult shows. With The Arrowverse currently dominating The CW’s programming and the DCEU making a film nearly impossible, an animated feature could allow the cast and crew to return to the characters who all of the actors have long been open to reprising.

The two leading actors were recently at a panel at Awesome Con, and a fan asked if the series could ever return in either live-action or animated format. Welling quickly jumped in that “I mean, animated could be fun,” and Rosenbaum quickly agreed that he’d already pitched that very idea! “I said to Al [Gough], we should do an animated Smallville. That would be huge! I mean, Smallville: The Animated Series, with all the real voices? And I wouldn’t have to shave my head! We’ve got to do that. Can you imagine us on mics doing the same dialogue?”

Just for that comment, I hope they make him wear a bald cap for the promotional material! In all seriousness, while fans would probably love ‘Smallville: The Animated Series,’ not everyone shares a love of animated shows and this might not be able to recapture the ratings it once enjoyed.

Justin Hartley (‘Green Arrow’) previously also showed interest in a revival and with the success of ‘This is Us,’ it would seem that an animated run would be more feasible with his schedule.

Would you be up to seeing ‘Smallville: The Animated Series’? Do you think the show would further flesh out their adventures pre-Superman or will we finally get that moment where Welling’s take on Clark Kent would put on the uniform to become Superman? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
