ABC has tried killing Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ in the past with Disney putting their foot down and making sure the series continued. Now, with the network having moved the fifth season to the Friday death spot, there are many worried that this could be the end of Marvel’s cinematic spy agency. Only this time, the series is ready. If ABC does cancel the show, we’ve learned that it’ll go out with a bang that will leave fans satisfied while at the same time leaving the doors open for a sixth season if they do get the green light.

According to co-showrunner Jed Whedon “We are in the process [of writing the finale]” and co-showrunner Maurisa Tancharoen added that “We know what it is” alluding to whether the episode would be either a season or series finale. Whedon went on to say:

“Yeah, we’re ready for if this is the end. We’re definitely going to make it rewarding either way.”

Fans of the longest running live-action Marvel TV series are likely in disagreement on being ready for a final ending. Each of the last couple seasons has just been getting better, and it would be a shame with a show to have surpassed expectations to be coming to a close.

As to how a continuation could happen?

“We can certainly pivot and there are certain things that we’re putting in that at the last minute could be adjusted. But we know at the end we’re not moving off that mark. We’re going to do what we were planning to do, and I think that it’ll be thrilling either way.”

Of course, there is something to be said about ending on a high note.

Here are a couple of shots the series just teased for this Friday’s return:
