There are a lot of perks to playing a character like Deadpool. Sure, in some respects it’s a job like any other. But in others? On top of all the usual perks of playing a superhero, you essentially become a professional smartass, which as anyone who’s Ryan Reynolds on Twitter can attest, is perhaps the man’s one true calling.

But it’s not all fun, games, and wisecracks, as even being Deadpool has a serious side. In an Instagram post, Reynolds shared what he dubbed “one of the best parts” of playing the Merc With A Mouth, and no, it has nothing to do with the fact that he was able to “liberate” a costume from the set of the first film. As the man himself explains:

“One of the best parts of playing the Big Red Jackass is welcoming @makeawishamerica and @childrenswishfoundation onto set. Deadpool kicked cancer in the taint, but these kids do it for real every day. These foundations make dreams come true for a lot of superbrave kids. They also make dreams come true for parents, who just want to see their kid smile. HUGE thanks to our Prop Master, Dan Sissons, for making sure every kid left with his/her own sword. (Bamboo versions. Not stabby-stabby versions.)”

Reynolds’ on-screen alter ego may be, in his words, a “big red jackass,” but let it never be said that the man behind the mask (be it the iconic red and black or a stapled on Hugh Jackman cutout) doesn’t have a big red heart.

Directed by David Leitch, ‘Deadpool 2’ will see Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Leslie Uggams, Stafan Kapicic, and Brianna Hildebrand reprise their roles from the original alongside newcomers Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz and Jack Kesy. The film is due to arrive in theaters on June 1, 2018.
