From most of the previews we’ve seen from ‘Black Panther,’ it would appear to take place on Earth but Forest Whitaker (‘Star Wars Rebels’,’The Last King of Scotland’) shared that they end up in “outer space” as well! With his work on ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ this won’t be the first time the actor could venture into the great unknown, but it is the first time we’ve heard this movie will. Director Ryan Coogler already looks to be giving us an amazing action flick set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Earth, and now it could be taking us beyond as well.

Oh, and it sounds like there will be more of a spy theme than we had initially been lead to believe as well.

According to Whitaker:

“We’re gonna see not only travel things but things that take us into outer space and things that take us into the James Bond space. It’s a really unique amalgamation of different things that come together in an exciting way.”

This detail doesn’t confirm any tie-ins to ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ infinity stones, or current stories but it sounds fun no matter how it plays out. Of course, a fun film isn’t the only reason which has Whitaker excited about his work on the upcoming film:

“It’s a unique piece. It’s a cultural piece. I think people are waiting to find something new to be able to live in, and this superhero from Africa who is in this society and trying to fix the world is something that people have not received before. I think Ryan is a great director, so there’s always going to be some social conscience inside of it, and at the same time the action and things we haven’t seen.”

I don’t think that anyone can argue that it’ll be a bonus to have “some social conscience” inside the film which will already have millions showing up at the box office. The cast recently had a chance to check it out and if their reaction was any indication, we’ll all be eagerly checking this one out!

“First time we saw it just as a cast… after it, everybody leaped up to their feet, literally. Some of them were in tears, we were so excited about what was actually occurring. I think that people have that same excitement around the movie. I’m expecting something great for the cast, something great for the world, something great for Ryan.”

This already has been looking like one of the most stunning films Marvel Studios has put out to date from the previews. Honestly, if ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ wasn’t dropping the same year, this would probably be the MCU movie I was most looking forward to in 2018. Either way, it’s still in the Top 5!
