Jimmi Simpson Returns To 'Westworld'

Over a year after the conclusion of its first season, ‘Westworld‘ is at last preparing to return to the airwaves. We still don’t know exactly when, but work is well underway on the show’s second season. That, in turn, has fans waiting with bated breath to learn just which of the show’s cast will be returning for the new season. Some are a pretty safe bet, but others could easily go either way. One such performer is Jimmi Simpson, who played William, a park guest whose storyline ran the course of the season before reaching a dramatic conclusion. More importantly, however, it ended in such a way that his return was not assured.

Simpson, it would seem, had a different sense of his odds. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, the actor addressed his return to ‘Westworld’, a return that he was under the impression had already been announced:

“I thought it was already a thing. But now that you’re asking me, I’m gonna shut up.”

But shut up he did not. Pressed further about his involvement with the acclaimed drama’s sophomore season, Simpson confirmed his return and elaborated on what he’d like to explore with regard to his character:

“I mean, yeah, I pop in. I wish there was exploration between the time when William’s heart is broken and we see the result. I’ll say that. I want to know how much it takes and how hard he tried not to go there. But I don’t write the story, you know? But that’s for me… Yeah, I love that.”

‘Westworld’ stars Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, and Jimmi Simpson. The series is scheduled to begin its second season this spring, though HBO has yet to announce and official premiere date.
