gillian andersonWhile we’ve all been hoping Gillian Anderson’s hints at being done with portraying Agent Scully weren’t true, it sounds like the eleventh season of ‘The X-Files‘ will be her last. This is something she spoke about at New York Comic-Con earlier this year though it hadn’t been fully set in stone at that time. While creator Chris Carter has said that the show could be going on for quite some time, the thought of it not including Dana Scully working across from Fox Mulder will likely turn off some viewers as their chemistry is part of what makes the show really work.

During an interview, she not only expressed once more that she was departing but seemed a bit surprised that people were taken aback the first time she mentioned it earlier this year.

As to why Anderson was so surprised? Going into the tenth season she thought that the revival was only ever meant to be a onetime outing:

“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me. I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

Now, with this already being a second season of the revival it seems that there is some wiggle room for her to continue. Not only that, but she did leave a small bit of hope for fans which I hope means that not only does Carter come up with a solid plan but Fox decides to throw a ton of money at her as well:

“There are a lot more X-Files stories to tell. Whether we get to tell them is a question mark. The truth is out there.”

Trust us guys, Disney totally wants another season for their streaming service so feel free to pay her. I’m not speaking as a fan who really just wants more of Anderson’s take on Scully. Honest.

Are you sad to hear that we’re going to likely be losing Agent Scully at the end of the eleventh season of ‘The X-Files’? Do you think that they’ll find a way to talk Anderson into staying around? Share your thoughts below!
