It’s here! The culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe has arrived in the form of the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ trailer, which has just been released and it’s everything fans may have wanted, but nothing they expected. In the clip, cosmic despot Thanos (Josh Brolin) finally arrives on Earth where he starts collecting the various Infinity Stones to adorn his Gauntlet and as shown, he succeeds at least a few times. In fact, it appears that he manages to secure one Stone that seemingly created one of the heroes, so where that leaves him, is unknown.
Unlike the ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ and ‘Infinity War’ comic books, most of the action takes place on Earth, drawing in the likes of Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and his entire Wakandan army. Luckily they get some assistance from Captain America (Chris Evans), The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and other members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
We get a few glimpses at new looks for various heroes. Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) has short blonde hair, looking more like Yelena Bolova, her replacement from the late ’90s-early 2000s. We get a look at The Vision (Paul Bettany) in human mode and further teases that he and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will come together romantically the way they famously did in the comics.
The only big name that seems to be missing is Ant-Man, but we do know that Paul Rudd’s character will be in the film. Oh and a handful of space misfits… but like the movies, this trailer has a bonus “post-credit stinger” to wait for.
Also released was an updated synopsis of the film:
An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
This will be an all-star affair! Let’s just hope the Russo brothers are able to juggle so many characters and still make the story coherent and compelling.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in many ways represents the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and too many others to count, is due to arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018.
