Pop-culture fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting the premiere of ‘The Dark Tower’ in theaters. The latest big-screen adaptation of a Stephen King work, the film stars Idris Elba as good guy” Roland Deschain – also known simply as The Gunslinger – and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, whom as you may have inferred from the ominous-sounding name, is the bad guy of the tale.
During the BET Awards over the weekend, production company Sony Pictures unveiled a new trailer-type of video for the film, which is set to open in less than six weeks. Although King has stated in the past that he saw Deschain as more of a “Clint Eastwood-type” of physically presenting the character, he has since lauded the casting of Elba, a choice made by the film’s director, Nikolaj Arcel.
The film focuses primarily on the eternal struggle between good and evil, set in a very dystopian setting on another world where sits a, um, towering Tower. The Gunslinger is the last in a long line sworn to protect the Tower; the Main in Black wants to bring it down in order to reign evil and chaos upon the universe. The fight hits close to home when the action spills over onto a new world: Earth.

eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey),
determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together.
With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle
as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.
