WARNING: Minor spoilers for the first two seasons of ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ lie below – if you haven’t seen the episodes and you wish to avoid learning this information, then the time to stop reading is NOW!

Based on the success of the first two seasons, Netflix is welcoming ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender” back for a third season later this year.  The series is based on the 1980s cartoon ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe,’ which is itself adapted from the Japanese anime show ‘Beast King GoLion.’

The big reveal of the third season is two-fold: first, the Voltron team seems to still be without Shiro, the MIA pilot of the Black Lion who disappeared mysteriously at the end of the second season.  This is important, as the Voltron “mega-robot” will be unable to form without Shiro piloting the Black Lion.  Secondly, in the wake of the Voltron team’s victory over Emperor Zarkon, his son Prince Lotor will be featured as the primary antagonist in the new season.

Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming season.  Check it out below!

The third season of ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ will debut on Netflix US on August 4, 2017.
