Yesterday we saw the final teaser for ‘War for the Planet of the Apes, and today the studio has released the final trailer. We’ve recently learned that this movie is going to be the end-cap to a trilogy, and director Matt Reeves has previously stated that he’d still like to bring the concepts of the original films to life so it could be entirely feasible that if we do get another movie after this one that there is a significant jump forward in time.
You can check out the trailer below!
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar, and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
Andy Serkis, who plays the role of Caesar, previously stated that the conflict between humans and apes that all began in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ will push both species towards a breaking point:
“Since the end of Dawn, [Caesar’s] been coping with the fact that they are, everybody’s at their wit’s end…The humans are under attack, the apes are under attack, and it’s reached a critical point where things are dire.”
The series has done an excellent job of taking a look at politics and society while giving us a fun-filled fictional world which might have humanity coming to its end by its own creation. This trailer does appear to set up the dynamic of one race being kept as slaves, and while we know from the original films that it will be the humans in chains, here it surprisingly wasn’t.
An excellent basis though as to why the Apes go on this route when they fully come to power. With the first two films being beloved by fans for their grim look at humanity’s downfall, I would expect nothing less than a fantastic film in this installment either.
What do you think of the latest trailer for ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’? Do you believe that this will have as solid of a story line as ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’?
The world will suffer the ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ on July 14th, 2017!
