One of the fun aspects of ‘The Dark Tower‘ film series is that a companion television series was set to flesh out the story by exploring other parts of Stephen King’s connected works and that is still happening. As of Fall last year, we heard that the first season of the series was set to adapt ‘Wizard and Glass’ with Idris Elba’s Roland and Tom Taylor’s Jake traveling and the two would be a framing device to tell this previous story. However, there hasn’t been much news since that time.

Ron Howard recently produced Nat Geo’s ‘Genius’ and was caught at the premiere and asked about the series. He wasn’t too specific though as when asked all he said was:

“Dark Tower is coming out this summer. It’s a terrific movie directed by Nikolaj Arcel. And we are working on the television component.”

However, while a television series is planned that doesn’t mean it will happen as:

“That’s not a commitment on the television side, but creatively, it could work very well, hand in hand with what we’d like the movies to be.”

The clear takeaway on that is if the film is a hit they will have a place to release the series but if it flops, probably not. With HBO about to lose ‘Game of Thrones,’ it seems the most likely of venue, but we can only speculate at this time as to which network may take on the production.

Are you still hoping that we’ll get a companion series to ‘The Dark Tower’? Which network would you like to see the show land on? Share your thoughts below!

‘The Dark Tower’ will open its doors on August 4th, 2017.
