War-for-the-Planet-of-the-Apes-Comic-001-ExclusiveWith ‘War for the Planet of the Apes‘ set to debut in July, we’ve just learned that BOOM! Studios are set to bring us a comic that helps tell the events which take place between it and it’s 2014 predecessor ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.’ The comic lands on July 12th, 2017 which will only be two days before the feature film hits the big screen but that should be plenty of time to get to your local comic shop and read it, so you go into the movie with the complete story. As always with these companion pieces, it won’t be needed to understand the events in the movie but will undoubtedly shed some light on part of the plot.

The book will be written by David F. Walker (‘Power Man and Iron Fist’,’Shaft’) and illustrated by Jonas Scharf (‘Warlords of Appalachia’).

The publisher had previously released a ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ limited series before the release of the last film in the same style as this one. While we don’t know too much about the comic yet we do know where it will be set as the official synopsis reads as:

In this prequel to the upcoming blockbuster film from 20th Century Fox, San Francisco lies in ruin as the war for survival between man and ape rests on the shoulders of one solitary soul.

While the image above is the primary cover which was done by Mikhail Borulko, We’ve also got the variant cover by artist variant with art by Jay Shaw which you can see below. Honestly, I think this should have been the widely released one.
