Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ returns next week with episode 16 titled ‘What If…” which is a perfect tribute for Marvel fans everywhere but we’re going to skip ahead with a synopsis and shot from the 17’th episode! Titled “Identity and Change” it looks as if our heroes are going to be heading even further into the deep end. For those who want a refresher, the midseason break left us with most of the team having been replaced with Life Model Decoys and hooked up to an alternate virtual reality called the Framework.

Agents Daisy, Fitz and Simmons are still on the outside and have to head into the Framework to try and wake their friends from a Matrix-like slumber. Only, when they plug in they find themselves in a world where Simmons is no longer among the living, Hydra rules the world, and Grant Ward is still alive.

I should probably stop for a moment here and warn that there are spoilers below:

We still don’t know the fate of Fitz though I suspect it could be shown from this following preview.

So at the very least, we’ll see Grant Ward spanning two episodes though I suspect he’ll be around for this entire arc until our heroes unplug from the Framework. The teaser for “Identity and Change” states:

“As Daisy and Simmons struggle to discover an escape route to the real world, the identity of the Inhuman leader of the Resistance is revealed.”

If the Framework is meant to give people things that they want, couldn’t Fitz potentially want to be an Inhuman and with her attitude end up as one of their leaders? We’ve got two weeks until we find out and suspect ‘What If…” won’t be revealing her fate.

Do you think that Fitz is the Inhuman resistance leader in this virtual world? Who else could be returning from the dead to fill the role as it could easily be Daisy’s mother or ex-lover among others? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ returns on April 4th, 2017!
