Teri Hatcher gained fame playing iconic comic book character Lois Lane on ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’, a romantic comedy spin on the comics that aired for four seasons on ABC television from 1993-97.  Now she is returning to the world of DC Comics with a recurring role in the back end of ‘Supergirl’ Season Two.  The role is a mystery, but is known to be the major villain and will span multiple episodes.

Hatcher played Lois opposite Dean Cain’s Clark Kent/Superman.  Cain, of course, has a recurring role on ‘Supergirl’ as Supergirl/Kara’s adopted father Jeremiah Danvers.  Fans can only cross their fingers in hopes that the two will have a ‘Lois & Clark’ reunion on ‘Supergirl’.

Hatcher previously made another guest appearance on a Super show, ‘Smallville’ on which she played Ella Lane, the mother of Erica Durance’s Lois.

‘Supergirl’ executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said announced:

“No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all-time favorite Lois Lane.  To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, [executive producer] Greg [Berlanti], and the fans.”

Hatcher brought a physical comedy element to her portrayal of Lois Lane, a character that is usually shown to be more cool and collected.  After ‘Lois & Clark’, Hatcher continued the klutzy comedic routine to even greater success on another ABC prime time soap ‘Desperate Housewives’ which ran for eight seasons from 2004-12, earning Hatcher a Golden Globe Award.  Hatcher’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ co-star Brenda Strong, who played the show’s deceased narrator Mary Alice Young also has a recurring role on ‘Supergirl’ as Lillian Luthor.  Once again, it remains to be seen if these two will share scenes together.

Coincidentally, during her ‘Lois & Clark’ tenure, Hatcher insisted that her character’s mother be played by Phyllis Coates, the first onscreen Lois in the old Superman film serials and on the first season of ‘The Adventures of Superman’ TV show.

No word on when Hatcher’s ‘Supergirl’ character will debut, but the show has just kicked off the second half of its sophomore season, so it could be any time now!
