logan

It’s no secret that ‘Logan’ will be Hugh Jackman’s final film as Wolverine, but even knowing this fact doesn’t take away the sting of seeing the last moments of this fan favorite mutant – especially in the final trailer for the film.

Both Jackman and director James Mangold have made it clear that ‘Logan’ will be very different than the usual Marvel superhero movie audiences have seen so far and that is very evident with the trailer below. “Basically, it’s going to be different,” states Jackman, “Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done.”

The film is set in the “near future” where mutants are slowly disappearing and Wolverine is struggling with the fact that his healing powers are slowing deteriorating and not as reliable as it used to be. Logan lives his life under the radar while taking care of a now much older Professor X whose powers have also diminished leaving him somewhat incapacitated. It’s not until Laura is thrust into his life, a girl as Xavier puts it is “very much” like him, that Logan is back in action and does what he can to protect the girl from the mysterious organization Transgen who is very much interested in retrieving her.

While past trailers focused on Logan, this one takes a different look at the film and centers more on Laura and Logan’s relationship to her as well as with Professor X. And while Logan has aged quite considerably since he was last seen, even more surprising is how Xavier has fared all these years. The relationship between Logan and Professor X has never been so poignant as it is seen in this film and makes me think that an extra box of tissues may be needed for the ending.

Check out the trailer below with the updated synopsis provided by Jackman himself then let us know if you’re ready to say goodbye to Logan:

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

If that wasn’t enough, Fox has also released a red band version of the trailer which you can see below. While it is basically the same, there are slight differences, most notably seeing Patrick Stewart as a dementia ridden Professor X dropping an F bomb!

Directed by James Mangold, ‘Logan’ stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen and claws its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
