Now that most prime time shows are set to make their returns from winter hiatus, the networks are also rolling out some new shows and one of the most anticipated is The CW’s dark new take on ‘Riverdale’ focusing on mature, modern versions of the classic characters from Archie comics.  Of course, Archie and all his pals are there, but so is Josie McCoy, the frontwoman of Josie and the Pussycats, who have regular starred in their own comics.  But another spinoff character may pop up on the new drama, a character that is no stranger to TV– Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

‘Riverdale’ executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa commented, “Some people don’t even know that Sabrina is in the Archie family.  There is absolutely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale or one town over in Greendale.”

But Aguirre-Sacasa stressed, “Certainly, the priority is launching ‘Riverdale’ and making sure that show is as good as it can be and as embraced as we want it to be.”

With ‘The Vampire Diaries’ departing at the wrap of the current season, and the future of ‘The Originals’ up in the air, The CW may be looking for a potential replacement in the supernatural department.  Could a reboot of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ be a likely candidate?

Aguirre-Sacasa simply teased:

“I’ll just tease that Sabrina has potential with a capital P.”

Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina on the 90s sitcom had previously mentioned the possibility of a reunion but stressed that there were questions of rights.

Last year, Archie relaunched its comic line with more modern, serialized takes on ‘Archie’, ‘Jughead’, ‘Betty and Veronica’ and most recently ‘Josie & The Pussycats’, which should influence the direction of ‘Riverdale’, but the publisher began experimenting with comics aimed at older readers back in 2014 and ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ was one of the first.  It would be fitting for the character to be included in this new dark spin on the classic comics.

Would you like to see Sabrina pop up on ‘Riverdale’?  What if this leads to a spinoff?

The currently witch-free ‘Riverdale’ stars K.J. Apa (Archie Andrews), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom), Ashleigh Murray (Josie McCoy) and Ross Butler (Reggie Mantle), with Luke Perry (Fred Rogers) and Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge).  The show premieres on January 26 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
