Everything old is new again at least when it comes to ABC’s classic TGIF lineup.  First The Disney Channel revived ‘Boy Meets World’, reuniting the original cast, now serving in the parental roles on ‘Girl Meets World’.  Then, Netflix brought back perhaps the signature TGIF show, ‘Full House’ now dubbed ‘Fuller House’ which has also proven to be a huge smash and has already been renewed for a second season. Now another show which was featured on the TGIF lineup may also be making a return, ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’.

Star Melissa Joan Hart appeared on the chat show ‘FABLife’ where she spilled that her two classic shows, ‘Sabrina’ and Nickelodeon’s ‘Clarissa Explains It All’ were both potentially on their way back to TV.  The audience, of course, went wild at the tease, but Hart was quick to stress that she was only in the earliest stages of TALKS to revive these two classics.

“I’m going to a meeting after this.”

Once the audience calmed down, she added:

“It’s a meeting, hold on, let’s slow down. Take a step back. They’re throwing around Clarissa and Sabrina ideas. It depends on who’s going to give up rights, who’s going to do it, how’s it going to be done — it’s a lot of politics and we are nowhere near doing anything.”

You can watch Hart on ‘FABLife’ below:

But this isn’t the first hint that Hart has given that ‘Sabrina’ might be returning.  Just weeks ago, she revealed:

“There’s a lot of talk about it. I feel like almost every day, somebody’s calling me about it. Would we do it? Should we do it? How do we do it? I think the thing about reboots is they’re really hard to do. They’re hard to do right. I think sometimes it’s better to just leave it in the past unless you do it really, really great.”

“I feel like it can be a career-killer if it’s not done right. You know, ‘Girl Meets World‘ and ‘Fuller House‘ have had success, but there are so many coming out now, it’s like, ‘Where is the original idea?’ So, in some ways, I’d rather move forward than look back.”

Hart hardly needs to worry about her career getting killed.  ‘Clarissa’ ran for four years.  Then came ‘Sabrina’ which lasted from 1996-2003.  She joined another 90s star, Joey Lawrence for ‘Melissa & Joey’ which ran from 2010-2015.  In between she has starred in several movies, including ‘God’s Not Dead 2’ which opens this weekend.  And of course ‘Sabrina’ spawned a spin-off cartoon which ran for several years as well.

What many may forget is that ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ was based on a comic book series from Archie Comics.  The ‘Sabrina’ comics began in 1962 and have appeared regularly since.  It was recently revamped to appeal to older readers.  ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ is currently published under the Archie Horror banner and has gotten critical acclaim.

That begs the question as to what approach a new ‘Sabrina’ show should take.  Another family-friendly sitcom?  Or a more mature take, possibly with supernatural overtones?

The CW ordered a pilot for ‘Riverdale’ a dark drama based on the regular Archie Comics.  Since The CW also aired the last few seasons of ‘Sabrina’ that could make the network the perfect home for a revival.  A new ‘Sabrina’ could potentially make for a perfect partner for ‘Riverdale’.  After all, The CW currently has three hit series based on DC Comics.  Why not more than one based on ‘Archie’?  And should they emphasize the supernatural tones, it could also make for a great companion to shows like, well ‘Supernatural’ or ‘The Vampire Diaries’.

Would you like to see a new version of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’?  If so, would you prefer another sitcom or something darker?
