We’re getting more proof that when a character dies in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe he stays that way as Frank Grillo (‘Warrior’,’The Grey’) has confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role as Crossbones in a future film. First introduced on screen as Brock Rumlow in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ and later as Crossbones before kicking the bucket in ‘Captain America: Civil War‘, the character appears to be gone for good now. Crossbones has been a thorn in Captain America’s side for years in the comics so it is almost surprising that he played such a minor role on screen before being taken out of play.

Previously, we didn’t actually see Crossbones die as he had stated that “You think he dies, don’t you? Did you see the body? What did you see?” as well as having stated about his chances of survival after surviving the first appearance as “That happened last time. I’m not saying anything except that…you didn’t see a body.”

All of that being the case in the past, when he mentioned that he likely wouldn’t be returning to ‘The Purge’ franchise he continued with:

“Same thing with Captain America. There’s nowhere for it to go, unless you’re Captain America or Iron Man. They were talking about it, but I was like, ‘You know what? I’d just rather not do it.’ I’m so appreciative and grateful to have been a part of something that big.”

So while it looks like he possibly could have returned one last time it seems that he’ll be gone for good. Of course, this could always be a ploy to surprise audiences down the line. He clearly hasn’t gotten revenge and in a previous interview stated that “I think revenge is a big part of… Whatever Rumlow was feeling as far as being torn between which side he should be on, which I think he was, is gone now. I think he’s out for one thing and one thing only and that’s to revenge what’s happened to him.” After the events of the last film, if he survived he would likely be even angrier.

With there not much of a chance of much more ‘Captain America’ movies happening if Rogers survives the events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ it seems unlikely that Crossbones would have much time to return for a properly fleshed out chance at revenge.

Are you sad to see Crossbones gone from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe’ or was he just another bad attempt at Marvel to create a villain as most have been so far? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
