powerless

It looks as if the DC Comics-based sitcom ‘Powerless’ is finally getting set to debut after the original pilot was shown at SDCC last summer only for the original showrunner Ben Queen to depart and NBC to completely overhaul the concept.  Now ‘Powerless’ is finally set to premier on February 2, 2017.  The show stars Alan Tudyk, Atlin Mitchell, and Danny Pudi, but the main character, Emily Locke is played by Vanessa Hudgens and a new photo has emerged that depicts her paying homage to the creators of Batman, Bob Kane and Bill Finger.

For many years, Bob Kane was given sole credit for creating Batman and his world, but in recent years, Finger has been acknowledged for contributing major elements, including making Batman’s suit gray and black (versus red, as Kane originally envisioned), christening his hometown Gotham City and creating Robin and The Joker just to name some highlights.

Initially, ‘Powerless’ was about an insurance company in the DC Universe, which helped innocent bystanders who found themselves or their businesses and homes damaged thanks to superhero/villain battles.  But the premise has changed, shifting the setting to a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises.  This is the new synopsis for the series:

In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

NBC initially ordered ‘Powerless’ directly to series, but it appears that the show needed some tinkering after the pilot was submitted.  Luckily, it appears that the main cast remains intact.  The pilot included unlikely DC hero the Crimson Fox, but no word on whether she will appear on the remixed version. Are you looking forward to this comedic take on the DC Universe?
