The teases for ‘War for the Planet of the Apes‘ began during New York Comic Con and lead up to the release of the film’s first trailer a few days ago. Since then, the studio has complimented that with the release of an international trailer. More so than the initial trailer, this one is dominated by the voiceover monologue in which Woody Harrelson’s Colonel lays out the apocalyptic stakes of human failure. Additionally, while the international trailer is significantly shorter, it nonetheless includes a fair bit of footage what was absent from the first trailer. This including a sequence depicting an attempt on Caesar’s life that doesn’t exactly go according to plan, ending with Caesar picking up a radio earpiece.

Unlike ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘, which picked up a significant length of time after ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ the upcoming third entry in the rebooted franchise is set to follow fairly closely on the heels of the previous film’s ominous conclusion. The film’s official synopsis is as follows:

In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.

Helmed by returning director Matt Reeves, ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller, and Terry Notary. The movie’s theatrical release is scheduled for July 14, 2017.
